AWRC Research
The Arkansas Water Resources Center manages water resource research and monitoring projects. Look below for a description of each category of research and follow the links for more information.
Research
Monitoring in Northwest Arkansas
The purpose of this project is to collect and analyze 46 samples each year at 15 sites in the Upper Illinois River Watershed and Upper White River Basin. The goal is to estimate loads and trends for a number of important water quality parameters.
Monitoring in the Poteau River Watershed, OK
The purpose of this project is to collect and analyze water samples in sub-watersheds to understand how nutrients and sediments are related to land use.
Water Quality in the West Fork
The purpose of this study is to better understand how water quality changes from the upstream headwaters of the West Fork of the White River to the larger downstream sections of the river.
Monitoring in the Poteau River Watershed, AR
The purpose of this project is to collect and analyze water samples in upper Poteau River watershed to understand how much nutrients and sediments are being transported across the watershed and how water quality is changing over time.
Nutrient Study at Cave Springs Lake
The purpose of this study is to figure out what’s causing excessive algal growth in the lake, how much nitrogen and phosphorus is in the water, and where are these nutrients coming from?
USGS 104(b) Grant
The AWRC awards multiple water research grants each year through the USGS 104(b) Grant Program.
