EPA Safe Drinking Water Act
For more information about safe levels of potential contaminants in drinking water, visit the EPA website to view primary and secondary drinking water standards. Primary standards are legally enforceable standards that apply to the finished water from public water systems. Secondary standards are non-enforceable guidelines regulating contaminants that may cause taste, odor, or other effects of drinking water.
Arkansas Water Quality Standards
The Clean Water Act requires states to develop water quality standards to protect surface waters for things like aquatic life, recreation, and drinking water supplies, among others. These standards are published in Regulation Two of the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission on the Arkansas Energy and Environment website.
